dental-caries-tooth-decayDental caries occur when the enamel (the hard, protective outer coating of the tooth) and dentine (dentine lies under the enamel, forming most of the tooth) of a tooth become softened. Over time, a cavity forms in the softened area of the tooth.

In the early stages, dental caries show no symptoms, but our dentists may be able to spot a cavity by performing an examination or x-raying your teeth. Small dental caries are much easier to treat than advanced decay and your dentist can stop the spread of decay with early treatment.
